My piece titled "Aunty Mayo's China Closet"  has a purpose and a story.  I inherited my aunt’s large china collection.  What to do with it?  No room in my house!  The china is beautiful, but full of dust from sitting in a cabinet for many years.  The dishes are piled on top of each other so that it is impossible to know what is on the bottom.  There is a large wall in the living room that desperately needs something, but what?  The end result is a 5' x 7' broken china mirror frame that is admired each day.  The dishes, no longer whole, are interwoven with other contents of the collection, creating a crazy quilt of pattern, color, and texture.  My aunt’s china is no longer the heirloom.  The mirror frame is a new heirloom with its own story.
