Maralynn Maltz is an award-winning mosaic artist living in Salem, Oregon. She is a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists, Artists in Action, Keizer Art Association, and the Salem Art Association.

In 2000, Maralynn and her young daughter took a “mommy and me” clay class through the Salem Art Association and that is when mosaics entered her life. Determined to make a 7’ x 5’ broken china mosaic mirror frame, even though the class had been cancelled, Maralynn spent 6 months researching in the library and talking to other mosaic and tile artists. She embarked upon her first piece titled “Aunty Mayo’s China Closet.”

Ten years later have passed and Maralynn is even more gripped by mosaics, gaining inspiration for her original designs from nature, architecture, influential artists, geometry, and emotions. Each mosaic is unique in materials and methodology. Each piece tells it own story about the inspiration, materials, color, and purpose.

Maralynn enjoys commissioned projects and the personal interaction with her clients. She is currently showing her mosaic art at Currents Gallery in McMinnville, Willamette Valley Vineyard’s Wine Center in McMinnville, Boccherini’s Coffee and Tea House in Albany, Spinnaker Place in Salem, and downtown Salem in the old Ranch Records storefront windows as part of an Artists in Action exhibit.

Maralynn has exhibited in juried and non-juried art shows at Westminster Presbyterian Church in 2008 and 2009, Enid Joy Mount Gallery in Keizer (1st place winner for “Bedrock”) in “Echoes of Green” recycled materials art show, Enid Joy Mount Gallery’s “Black, White, and Gray” show in 2009, Enid Joy Mount Gallery’s “Urban Art” show in 2010, the Keizer Winter Art Solstice in 2010, and has opened up her home and studio in Salem for art shows including several other artists. Maralynn was honored to be one of 10 ceramic artists invited to create a “ball” for the 11th Annual Clay Ball, benefiting the Salem Art Association in February 2010. She teaches mosaic classes in her home studio, and is scheduled for classes in April at the Currents Gallery in McMinnville and the Keizer Art Association.

Maralynn has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a M.B.A. She has taken art classes in colleges and universities and studied with Cynthia Herron, a landscape painter and college art teacher. Maralynn’s private sector work experience was in banking, marketing, funds development, and project management. She is the chair of a non-profit art committee and is also a classroom volunteer at Family Building Blocks in Salem.
