I
work in both mosaic and fiber art.
Mosaic art manipulates hard shards of glass, stone, or
ceramic. Fiber art snuggles into the softness of spun threads of color
and texture. I view
both arts as creation with heart.
A
story develops as a mosaic evolves into an object of purpose.
Creating a mosaic is a slow and thoughtful process.
It is not fabrication for fabrication has no heart.
The story within each piece of a mosaic has its own heart and
soul. The materials
often have their own history. So
now, not only does the finished piece become a treasure but it is
passed down to future generations and along with it goes the story.
Fiber art is both an art form
and a lifestyle for me. The
feel of yarn in my hands is immediately relaxing and stimulating.
Relaxing and stimulating don't seem to be compatible
but the feeling is addictive. The
act of doing crochet is personal.
Energy and love hooks into each stitch, injecting life into a
finished piece. Each
skein of yarn screams out its ultimate purpose…Hat!
Scarf! Afghan!
Pillow! The
yarn calls for others to join in, blending color and texture into a
unique creation.
Mosaic
and fiber art have given me delight in the art of storytelling,
fulfillment in the creation of pieces with heart and soul but also
with a purpose, and an intense feeling of usefulness for my own
life.
